Without doubt, vegetables are an important part of the well-balanced diet, as they are rich in important vitamins, fiber, carbohydrates, and minerals. These substances help to strengthen the immune system and make for a fit and energetic body. Most of the vegetables may be consumed when raw. No or little processing is regarded as the best way to take advantage of their ingredients. There are plenty of ways to cook vegetables: you can prepare a vegetarian/ non-meat dishes, combine them with fish, poultry or other meat, or serve them as a side dish. You may be surprised that some veggies are used to make cakes and other sweets. Have you heard of jam made of carrots?

Having a salad is a nice way to begin your lunch or dinner, and there are plenty of recipes you can choose among. You can have a plain lettuce salad with some lemon and salt or upgrade it to Caesar salad by adding a topping, Parmigiano, and some tuna fish. You can use your imagination and combine vegetables with meat, seafood, pasta, fruits, raisins, etc.

Fruits are another natural source of important nutrients for your health and beauty. Regular consumption of fruits is recommended in order to get your daily vitamins. Moreover, many of the fruits contain antioxidants which help to eliminate toxins and waste accumulated in the body.

Meat products supply your body with the very much needed proteins, iron, and vitamin B12. They help you build muscle tissue and maintain your strength and vitality. Meat could be processed in several ways – baking, boiling, frying, marinating, or smoking – the options are numerous. You can combine meat with mash, rice, gravy, beans, and any other side dish.

Bread, biscuits, rolls, pastries, and other sweet delights are typically made of flour, eggs, and butter. They are part of the breakfast menu in many countries around the globe. Other ingredients may be added to create unique flavor and taste - spices, raisins, onion, nuts, poppy seeds, etc.

Cereals are another typical snack that we have at breakfast. Cereals are the preferred breakfast meal for people who maintain healthy lifestyles. They contain vitamins, minerals, and fats.

Eggs are used for the preparation of many savory and sweet dishes. They are important in supplying all important amino acids, Vitamin B6 and B12, iron, potassium and phosphorous. However, it is recommended to avoid daily consumption, especially if your cholesterol level is high.

The regular consumption of fish is beneficial for the body because fish meat is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. They reduce the risk of heart diseases and help to maintain good ratio between good and bad cholesterol.

Preserves come in the form of canned fruits or vegetables. The most popular preserves are jams, jellies, and marmalades. Pickles, on the other hand, are preserved in a solution of brine and vinegar.

Soups are usually divided into two groups – clear or thick. The clear soups may be further divided into consommés and bouillons. Thick soups are represented by purees, bisques (these are made of pureed shellfish or a vegetable puree and cream), and veloutes which are thickened with butter, eggs, and cream. They combine ingredients such as vegetables, meat, and noodles and are quite nutritious.

Cakes and candies fall into the group of desserts. Cakes are prepared for special occasions such as weddings and birthdays, while candies are popular and consumed far more often.

There are all kinds of beverages – pure water (of course), alcoholic, non-alcoholic, soft drinks (colas, ice tea, fruit punch), and hot beverages (coffee-based, tea-based, and hot chocolate).
